Mahogany Porch Flooring
Mahogany porch flooring is really called Meranti. It shares similar aesthetic characteristics as true Mahogany but is not the real thing, the real thing does not exist. We specify Dark Red Meranti when we order our loads, our experience is that darker red Meranti holds up better than some of the lighter colored, blond Meranti. Meranti is a beautiful product to finish with a clear sealer like Cabot's Australian Timber Oil or Cabot's clear solution. It will also take a paint very well. Niece Lumber stocks tongue and groove 1 x 4 (face measures approx. 3 1/8") and we typically carry 8', 10' and 12' lengths. We do our best to provide you lengths that you can use thus eliminating waste. Not many yards in our area stock this product on a consistent basis. We carry the associated Meranti handrail, stair treads, 4 x 4 posts and balusters to finish your porch jobs. As with any wood product, we recommend you finish the product on the top, bottom, edges and ends. Most porch flooring that fails in a short amount of time was incorrectly finished. Coating the backside of this material with a high quality primer will add years to the life of the product. Its great to seal all your end cuts to resist checking.
Douglas Fir Porch Flooring
Vertical Grain Douglas Fir porch flooring dates back to the oldest homes in our area. Widely used and accepted, this tongue and groove board domestic porch option provides homeowners and builders an economical choice when replacing defective porch boards. Niece Lumber stocks fir porch flooring in 1 x 4 and 5/4 x 4 can be special ordered. Proper installation techniques can preserve the longevity of fir porch flooring. Coating all six sides (top, bottom, tongue, groove, end and end) with a quality exterior primer or clear sealer before installation is necessary. Top coating this product with a high quality latex paint or oil finish after installation is recommended. Vertical Grain Douglas Fir porch flooring is the choice for customers demanding a domestic harvested and milled product. Douglas Fir products are sourced from parts of the Pacific Northwest, Idaho and British Columbia.
